![]() What I expect from an artist is honesty, inspiration and personality (be yourself).Īmong my fave albums: "A Love Supreme" - John COLTRANE "Caravanserai" - SANTANA "Les Porches" - MANEIGE "Elastik Rock" - NUCLEUS "Grey And Pink" - CARAVAN "Nursery Cryme" - GENESIS "Crime Of The Century" - SUPERTRAMP "Lark's Tongue In Aspic" - KING CRIMSON "In Rock" - DEEP PURPLE "Babylon By Bus" - MARLEY "12 Dreams of Dr Sardonicus" - SPIRIT "M. In a few words, I consider music as an art or a form of expression, but dislike the industrial side of music and the blatant form of exploitation (MTV) and plagiarists. But my real tastes are complex music developped by the artists included on this site. Among the music I highly regard is Jazz in general (especially COLTRANE, MINGUS, McCoy TYNER and DAVIS), Folk from most countries in the world (as long as it is real/authentic, not overtly commercial), Rock (many styles but rather not hair metal and glam rock and certainly not New Wave - where image is more important than music), Classical music (especially DVORAK, HAYDN & SCHUBERT) etc. This is valid for almost all of the musical styles (except classical musis of course) from Jazz, Blues, Rock, Folk, Soul-Funk, even la chanson francaise. The period of music that I like best is from 65 until 75 (with the core from 67 to 73), but it can be extended from 59 to 79. I have also seen many concerts (roughly 50/year all styles considered). I bought around five thousand records (and got rid of well over half of them to finance new acquisitions and storage issues), and I have heard many more through friends and the Belgian Mediatheque where you can rent the albums for one week (and fairly cheaply I might say), so I can say that at least if not well-read I am well-heard. I started buying records at the tender age of 12 in 74 and started with "Crime Of the Century", "Selling England By the Pound", and "Dark Side Of The Moon" and Harmonium's debut album - as you can see destiny exists. A second introduction would be the Hair musical soundtrack later that year. My parents introduced me to classical music but my first exposure to rock was when I was 6 and my father bought STAND UP from JETHRO TULL on the strenght of Bouree and I just loved the sublime art work and the pop-up in the gatefold. Age 54 but 19 of those years spent in Toronto, Canada (from age 10 to 29), now living in Brussels. ![]()
